Meet Chaplain Missy Deibler, Health Management Chaplaincy Advisor

Michelle “Missy” Deibler has been asked to complete the Health Management Chaplaincy team since she is a volunteer chaplain and soon to be a Staff Chaplain. Since Health Management has several hundred volunteer chaplains, we believe her experience as a volunteer will help us understand that side of ministry. Furthermore, we need to be aware of the many issues with women in ministry. From the first email, it was apparent that Missy was the perfect chaplain to help us meet patients spiritual needs.
Missy writes, “My journey towards becoming a chaplain came from a hunger I experienced while my husband battled cancer in 1998. As we faced the fear of the unknown during his month long stay at the hospital, I searched each person’s face that entered the room for any trace of encouragement or hope. Ironically, a chaplain never visited us, but it gave me the incentive to pursue the training that would equip me for the position myself.
In 2005, I became part of the Volunteer Spiritual Care team at the Heart of Lancaster. Since then, I enrolled at Evangelical Theological Seminary in Myerstown, PA where I’m pursing a Master of Arts in Religion. I’ve taken one unit of CPE with the intention of completing the units once I graduate.
My employed position as Volunteer Coordinator allows me to be involved with the daily operations of the hospital, so I am very aware of the. spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of both the staff and the patients. Although I was raised in the Anabaptist tradition, our family presently attends an Evangelical Congregational Church.
My husband, David, and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary in 2011. He retired from his Chiropractic practice to work for my family’s business. We have four children and four grandchildren. I am inspired and refreshed by the mentorship of the Health Management Chaplaincy leadership and feel blessed to be part of this Christ centered group.
In Colossians 4:6, we are reminded, “let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
I continue to pray for the wisdom that God promises me as I minister to the sick.”
