SpringhillChildrensEventPhotoToday’s children have more challenges than ever to stay healthy. Poor eating habits, lack of physical activity and the lure of tobacco, alcohol and drugs can put kids on a path that leads to undesirable health and lifestyle choices. But, this October, Spring Hill Regional Hospital in Spring Hill, Fla., hosted its first Children’s Health & Safety Expo to promote good nutrition, daily exercise, and provide vital information on how to stay safe.

Education, information and fun

With more than 30 displays and various hospital departments represented, Spring Hill Regional’s Children’s Health & Safety Expo provided information on nutrition, germs, physicians, pediatricians, the hospital’s teddy bear clinic and more. In addition:

  • A special table was set up to promote the CuddleBugs program, and Associates distributed CuddleBugs rack cards to all moms-to-be.
  • In the parking lot, emergency vehicles were on display.
  • Representatives from local organizations, such as the fire department, sheriff’s office, highway patrol, the electric company and the Health Department were available to provide information and answer questions.

“We provided health and safety education for children and parents while showcasing our services,” said Patrick Maloney, CEO of Spring Hill Regional. “Several interactive events and displays provided a fun learning experience for both kids and their parents.”

Fun events for kids included face painting and balloon art, and door prizes were given away to the kids every half hour. With approximately 600 people in attendance, Spring Hill Regional has already begun planning a “2nd Annual Children’s Health & Safety Expo” for 2012.

“Our first Children’s Health & Safety Expo was a win-win event for everyone involved,” said Patrick. “At the end of the day, it was evident by the hundreds of smiling faces that this was an event for our community to remember.”
